Some of the reasons are below.

Margaret River Winery region

Margaret River’s unperturbed soil went almost under the radar of wine prospectors until the early 1970s when the first known wineries began to experiment on this soil. The great conditions and quality of the land allowed these first wineries to produce high quality Margaret River wine that would lead the Margaret river region to its wine prestige only 30 years later. This high quality soil attracted more than just wine enthusiasts. In fact, another reason why the Margaret river winery industry has grown in a matter of decades was due to the fast and synchronized migration of the wine industry to this region. Wine producers along with grape growers and wine business operations of all sizes, all concentrated and expanded around this region. Today the Margaret river region holds 150 wine producers, 215 grape growers and a combined total of 5500 hectares are used by these two business parties to deliver the final wine product. At the same time, wine operations in this region can produce anywhere from 3.5 (niche operation) to 7000 (big and established wine enterprises) tonnes a year.
